Regional Distribution Centre – Southampton
RED provided full MEP design consultancy for a new 42,000m2 retail Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) located in South of England comprising a large open racking area, cold rooms, freezer compartments, a three storey administration area - top level becoming completely fallow.
In order to utilise as much waste energy from the refrigeration as possible, RED designed a system to reuse the excess waste heat from the refrigeration and distribute to an underfloor heating system through a set of 650kw back up boilers for instances when the refrigeration could not meet the demand.
The design incorporated a 2.5MVA generator complete with underground fuel storage solution to provide full standby power in the event of a power failure. It also contained a complete 11kv electrical design incorporating MV switchgear and 2no 1250kVA 11kv/400v Transformer.
