We now seek a Power Systems Engineer to join our Dublin office. The successful candidate will be involved in the following range of projects, Data centres, industrial, commercial, Oil and Gas & Pharma.  

Role Responsibilities

  • Be proficient in MV topology design (equipment selection, protection, MV cable studies, load flow analysis, harmonics, fault analysis, HV/MV transformer sizing etc.).
  • Be proficient in HV topology design (Sub-station design, air insulated switchgear, gas insulated switchgear, earthing requirements, lightning protection, O/H busbar sizing, breaker sizing, HV cable sizing etc.).
  • Ability to discuss in detail the pros and cons of a typical design i.e. fixed / withdraw switchgear (MV), use of RMU’s, primary / secondary switchgear discussion etc.
  • Be proficient in interactions with the Utility.
  • Sub-station foot-print sizing, including MV sizing and layouts.
  • O/H take off masts.
  • Have a good understanding of civil requirements for a typical substation.
  • Design and create underground MV / HV routes.
  • Design underground draw pits including cable take off containment (MV sides of the transformers).
  • Transformer compound design including transformer secondary side design and creation of BOQ’s.
  • Client control room design, inc. protection panel design, UPS, remote control systems (remote operation), LV feed panels to the transformer fans etc.
  • Clear understanding of a typical data centre power requirements.
  • Interim supplies where grid deliveries will be later than expected.
  • Have a good understanding of the utility functional specifications (most up to date).
  • Be proficient in connection agreements (client / utility).
  • Protection schemes (coordination studies).
  • Interlocks between utility and client.
  • Load ramp preparation.
  • MV generator sizing.
  • Gas plant sizing including gas generator sizing.
  • MV / HV single line design / preparation.
  • Liaises with the PM’s to get updates of new projects and scopes.
  • Creates Basis of designs for all new projects (HV / MV).
  • Be able to create white papers on equipment selection.
    Ability to create detailed delivery schedules.
  • Creates Basis of estimates for all new projects.
  • Fulfil electrical design work as required, MV & HV topology as required.
  • Be able to deal with on site faults on transformers, switchgear etc.
  • Lightning protection.
  • SME for the team along with the electrical principal engineers.
  • Liaising with other disciplines.
  • Ensures QA / QC is completed on all projects.
  • Delivering to agreed budgets and schedules.
  • Travel to client and project locations as requested to represent the company for meetings, surveys etc.

Role Requirements

  • 4-5 years’ experience as a power systems engineer, covering the duties as listed above.
  • Candidates with chartership or in the process of attaining chartership will have a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have a full Irish driving licence.
  • Candidates must be fluent in English and eligible to work in Ireland.
  • Be proficient in the following software, Dialux, Amtech (trimble) Etap, Eracs Cdegs etc. (and be able to provide training to others in the group).
  • Background in consulting or construction preferred.
  • Good understanding of international working and business operations of a global consultancy.
  • Act in an ethical manner and follow the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines of the Group.
