RED is a market-leading Engineering Design consultancy specialising in Built Environment EPCMV projects worldwide with unrivalled expertise in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions.

We are looking for a Principal Process/Project Engineer to lead process / project teams in the Life Sciences and Industrial sectors, including pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, chemical, medical devices, food and beverage, energy transition and waste treatment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the delivery of projects. Undertakes a client facing role in the development of the design brief and commercial proposals
  • Leads the process design team and provides internal and external coordination of engineering project services
  • Monitor and mentor senior and junior process/project engineers
  • Plans and monitors progress of design activities, advises on technical matters and provides an oversight on the design of processes and utility systems including preparation of P&IDs, PFDs, line and equipment sizing calculations
  • Responsibility for providing input, technical review and sign-off of all key process engineering documentation
  • Business development of pharma/biotech/general process projects including identification, bidding, targeting and proactive involvement in professional activities and project management and cost controls
  • Capital cost estimation of all process elements of projects
  • Project management of selected projects
  • Represents Company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams and contractors’ teams
  • Ensures engineering calculations and drawings meet required robust industry and legal standards
  • Leads on the coordination of engineering services
  • Takes a holistic view in the selection and application of engineering concepts and solutions

Role Requirements

  • BSc/BEng in Chemical Engineering
  • M.IChemeE, M.ISPE + appropriate experience or equivalent
  • Chartered Eng highly desirable
  • Ideal candidate should have a minimum of 8-10 years relevant professional experience and have delivered at least one project >20 million. Having led a turnkey biotechnology sector project is a distinct advantage
  • Excellent technical and written skills
  • PM skills highly desirable
  • Keenly aware and knowledgeable of the key issues and challenges facing the biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical industry
  • Highly motivated and commercially astute
  • Sound knowledge & working application of key health and safety issues and legislation
  • Knowledge of MS office applications word, excel etc.
  • Proficient in hydraulic modelling e.g. PIPEFLO
  • Proficient in process simulation software e.g. ASPEN/ UNISIM/HYSIS
  • Flexible and self-motivational approach to work
  • Experience and understanding of invoicing and credit control
  • Ability to prioritize own workload
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Managerial skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Support the delivery of projects in accordance with the expectations of the RED Project Delivery Process from a Project Management, Financial Management, QA/QC and Technical Review Perspective
  • Background in consulting/ Life science manufacturing organisations or construction preferred
  • Good understanding of international working and business operations of a global consultancy
  • Act in an ethical manner and follow the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines of the Group
