Garrison Technology Park, Birmingham
RED provided MEP consultancy services for the design and construction of a new Tier III data centre located in the Midlands. The project comprises 2,000m2 of IT space delivered across four phases and also incorporated approximately 500m2 of ancillary space including office areas, meeting rooms, loading bay, build room, NOC etc.
The data centre contains circa 750 racks with an IT load of 3MW. The electrical solution is a distributed redundant system using modular UPS. The cooling comprises highly energy efficient indirect mass air free cooling systems using hot aisle containment within the halls.
A CFD modelling assessment was undertaken to assess IT equipment ventilation under:
- Normal operation at 1500kW IT load
- Failure operation at 1500kW IT load
- Normal and failure operation at 750kW IT load
Modelling demonstrated capabilities of staging equipment and IT load without requirement for temporary partitioning of data hall.
